D12450K is a purified low-fat control diet from Research Diets in which sucrose has been removed and the carbohydrate fraction is supplied by corn starch and maltodextrin only. The diet provides 10 kcal% fat, 20 kcal% protein and 70 kcal% carbohydrate, with an energy density of 3.85 kcal/g. D12450K extends the Research Diets DIO (Diet-Induced Obesity) series with a sucrose-free low-fat reference option.
Formulation
- Casein-based purified formula with defined ingredients.
- Carbohydrate fraction from corn starch and maltodextrin 10; no added sucrose.
- Fat fraction from soybean oil and lard.
- Maltodextrin is used in part to support pellet quality in a high corn starch formulation.
Use as a sucrose-free control
D12450K is selected when the study design requires a low-fat control free from added sucrose, for example when sucrose, fructose or simple sugars are the experimental variable, or when comparison against sucrose-matched controls (D12450H, D12450J) and the high-sucrose D12450B is part of the design.
