D12450H is a purified low-fat control diet from Research Diets, formulated to match the sucrose calories of the 45 kcal% fat DIO diet D12451. The diet provides 10 kcal% fat, 20 kcal% protein and 70 kcal% carbohydrate, with an energy density of 3.85 kcal/g. Together with D12451, this diet forms a matched pair within the Research Diets DIO (Diet-Induced Obesity) series.

Formulation

  • Casein-based purified formula with defined ingredients.
  • Carbohydrate fraction supplied by corn starch, maltodextrin 10 and sucrose; sucrose calories are aligned with those of D12451 (~17 kcal% sucrose).
  • Fat fraction from soybean oil and lard.
  • Color-coded peach/red for visual distinction.

Use as a sucrose-matched control

When animals in the low-fat and high-fat groups consume the same number of calories, D12450H ensures that sucrose intake is equivalent between groups. This makes it the preferred control where sucrose must be held constant alongside fat as the experimental variable in studies using D12451 as the high-fat arm.
