FAQ - D12450B Research diet 2.5HS

Which Research Diets DIO formulas does D12450B serve as control for?

D12450B is the original general low-fat control reference for the DIO series, used alongside high-fat diets such as D12451 (45 kcal% fat) and D12492 (60 kcal% fat).

Why are alternative controls such as D12450H, D12450J or D12450K sometimes preferred?

D12450B contains roughly 35 kcal% sucrose. ~When sucrose intake must be matched to a specific high-fat diet, sucrose-matched controls (D12450H, D12450J) or the sucrose-free D12450K can be selected.

Which species is D12450B intended for?

D12450B is formulated for laboratory rats and mice in metabolic and DIO research.

Product Instructions

Feed ad libitum according to facility guidelines and study protocol.

D12450B is a purified low-fat control diet from Research Diets formulated for rats and mice in diet-induced obesity (DIO) studies and other metabolic research. The diet provides 10 kcal% fat, 20 kcal% protein and 70 kcal% carbohydrate, with an energy density of 3.85 kcal/g. The diet is part of the Research Diets DIO (Diet-Induced Obesity) series of matched control and high-fat formulas.

Formulation

  • Casein-based purified formula with defined ingredients.
  • Carbohydrate fraction provided by corn starch, maltodextrin 10 and sucrose; sucrose contributes approximately 35 kcal% of the diet.
  • Fat fraction supplied by soybean oil and lard.
  • Color-coded yellow for visual distinction in study designs.

Use as a control

D12450B is the original general low-fat control associated with the Research Diets DIO series, including the high-fat reference diets D12451 (45 kcal% fat) and D12492 (60 kcal% fat). Because it carries a relatively high sucrose share, sucrose-matched alternatives such as D12450H, D12450J and the sucrose-free D12450K are also available within the same family when the study design requires sucrose calories to be controlled separately from fat calories.

Intended use

For use in laboratory rodent research where a defined-ingredient low-fat reference diet is required, including obesity, diabetes and other metabolic models. Suitable for rats and mice.

Standard delivery is in cases of 12.5 kg, divided into 2.5 kg heat sealed foil bags. The diet can be modified on request and is also available irradiated. Contact our specialists for advice at researchdiets@brogaarden.eu.
