FAQ - Bedmax Shavings 18 kg

What is Bedmax made from?

Predominantly Scots pine sourced from sustainable managed forestry, with a small proportion of spruce only when pine is short.

How is the dust level reduced?

The shavings pass through a computerised vacuum extraction system three times during production to remove airborne dust particles below 10 microns.

Why pine rather than spruce?

Pine has documented natural antibacterial properties and inhibits the bacteria that convert urine to ammonia, which supports a cleaner stable environment.

Bedmax Shavings is a large-flake pine shavings bedding produced predominantly from Scots pine timber. The shavings are dried at high temperatures and dust-extracted to one of the lowest documented airborne-dust levels on the market.

Material and processing

Made from fresh pine sourced from sustainable, managed forestry. The drying process removes most natural bioburden from the wood, and a controlled moisture content is maintained to keep the shavings dry and absorbent.

Form and supply

Supplied as 18 kg bales. The shavings are a mix of large, medium and small flakes that form a layered, absorbent and supportive bed.

Documented use

Documented by the manufacturer as bedding for horses. The product is also relevant as a large-flake softwood bedding option for facility stalls and housing of large animals.
